Reasons Why Most Chicago Artists Won't Make It Past Local Fame

Hailing from a city where everybody has dreams of  being "up next" I can pretty much determine who's going to make it big one day, AND who's just gonna be locally famous.
I won't name any names, because I don't throw shade on people trying to make it. But if you're like 30+ years old, and you're name isn't ringing bells outside of the city you're originally from, then chances are you may need to choose a new occupation.
Nonetheless, here's a few reasons why most of you artists won't make it past local fame.
Your Image
No matter what you do in this industry, how you look matters, and image is everything.   If you want to be known globally, you have to be able to appeal to a variety of people, the world is so much bigger than where you're from. Your same old image will not get you on, at least not permanently. Don't believe me? Look at people like Kanye, Nicki Minaj. They are definitely not the same people they were when they started, but look how global their name, image, and brand is. You've got to make yourself marketable. The more marketable you are, the more money you'll make.
No Networking Skills
How the fuck can call yourself an artist and not be a people person? You don't like to go outside? Don't like to connect to people in any shape, form, or fashion? That's crazy. In the entertainment industry, and life in general, you have to know how to network. In the music industry, it's important to show your face, you cannot hide behind a computer all the time, I don't care how advanced technology is these days, when you make business connections in person, it will always make a lasting impression.

Poor Work Ethic
If a person doesn't work, then they don't eat, period. If you're doing a half ass job at getting your name out here, then why do it in the first place? If you want to make it past local fame, you definitely need to hustle. I see too many stunt for Twitter and other social networking sites, when in reality they are nothing.
Secondly, you can know a lot of people, but what good is knowing someone if you're not making money? What good is knowing someone if you're not further propelled into being a success? A person's work ethic will always determine their success.
